Pharaoh's Labourers
The main aim of our project is to introduce the western public to those who make it actually possible to bring archeological finds to light and with them the study of the oldest civilisation in history. Many of the labourers of today are highly competent in va- rious methods of excavation and can identify different types of soil stratification as well as date their historical period. They can also read some of the hieroglyphics.
They are proud of the work handed down to them over generations and almost all prou- dly claim to have an ancestor who participated in the excavations of Howard Carter, Er- nesto Schiapparelli or other famous Egyptologists; a legacy that they exhibit as a coat of arms ennobling their lineage.
